Acts 2:1-41

Romans 11:25, I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 (NKJV), . . . I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.

1 Corinthians 12:1 (NKJV), Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant.

The Three Ingredients of a Highly Influential Witness

Acts 2:1-4 (NKJV), 1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The Purpose of Each Annual Feast in Israel

  • The Feast of PASSOVER commemorates GOD’S REDEMPTION OF US.
  • The Feast of PENTECOST commemorates GOD’S CALL UPON US.
  •  The Feast of TABERNACLES commemorates OUR PILGRIMAGE and the FULFILLMENT OF GOD’S PLAN.

Ephesians 1:7; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Acts 1:23-23; 1 Corinthians 15:8

Matthew 9:37-38, 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

1. Honor GOD’S PRESENCE.

ACTS 2:1-2, 1When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

2 Kings 2:1; Job 38:1

  • When God’s presence is honored, His power is revealed.

John 3:8, The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.

2. Live with PASSION.

Acts 2:3 (NKJV), Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.

Exodus 3:1-2 (NKJV), 1 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush . . .

Hebrews 12:28-29; Matthew 3:11

  • God’s work is accomplished through people inspired to please the Holy Spirit, not through people merely indwelt by the Holy Spirit.

3. Engage OUR PEOPLE.

Acts 2:4-8 (NKJV), 4And they were ALL filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. The Crowd’s Response And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?

ACTS 2 – WHY SALVATION SPREAD RAPIDLY

  1. Everyone engaged those they had AFFINITY
  2. Everyone was ANOINTED by the Holy Spirit.

ACTS 2 – TWO RESPONSES TO THE CHURCHES WITNESS

  1. Cynicism – Acts 2:15
  2. Conversion – Acts 2:41

Acts 2:41, Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

Questions:

  1. What did you hear from the Holy Spirit?
  2. What will you do because of it?
  3. How can we pray for you?
