• Precious – of great value; not to be wasted or treated carelessly

Hebrews 5:13-14 (AMP)
For everyone who lives on milk is [doctrinally inexperienced and] unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a spiritual infant. But solid food is for the [spiritually] mature, whose senses are trained by practice to distinguish between what is morally good and what is evil.

  1. CHARACTER IS UNCHANGING.

Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

  • A person with character lives on principles not what is popular.

  • Principle – a fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning

Matthew 7:24-25
The Wise and Foolish Builders. “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”

2. CHARACTER MAKES US WHOLE.

  • Integrare (Latin) – means to make whole

  • The Shema, which is the central most prayer in Judaism, starts like this: “Hear O Israel the Lord our God is One.”

Malachi 3:6|
“I the LORD do not change . . .

  • Our goal should be that our thoughts, words, and actions line up with our values, beliefs, and principles.

James 1:8 (KJV)
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Titus 1:16
They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.

3. CHARACTER PROTECTS.

Genesis 1:26 (ESV)
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

  • The first gift God gave man was His image. (His likeness)

Proverbs 4:6
Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.

Ephesians 4:24 (NLT)
Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous

and holy.

4. CHARACTER POINTS PEOPLE TO JESUS.

Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Helpful Tips to Build Godly Character:

  • It starts with relationship. (Root before fruit)

John 15:5
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

  • Understand who you are in Christ. (Image)

  • Align your principles with God’s Word.

  • Allow the Holy Spirit to work in your heart.

John 15:26

Galatians 5:19-23
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
