John 9:1-41

Proverbs 4:18-19 (NLT) 18 The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day. 19 But the way of the wicked is like total darkness. They have no idea what they are stumbling over.

John 1:4-5, 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

  • DECISIONS made in SIN’SDARKNESS often DODAMAGE.

John 9:1-2, 1 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?

Deuteronomy 30:19, 28:15, 28; 2 Samuel 12:9-15; 24:1-17; Galatians 6:7-8; Romans 1:27

John 9:3-5, 3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

Romans 8:26

How to See and Step into Salvation after Suffering

1). SURRENDER to Jesus. (John 9:6-7)

John 9:6-7, 6 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.

John 2:5, 4:50, 5:6-8, 6:11; 6:20, 9:7

Ephesians 5:25-27, 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church . . .

John 15:1-3, 1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.

2). STAND up against doubt. (John 9:8-12)

John 9:8-12, 8 His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, “Isn’t this the same man who used to sit and beg?” Some claimed that he was. Others said, “No, he only looks like him.” But he himself insisted, “I am the man.” 10 “How then were your eyes opened?” they asked. 11 He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.” 12 “Where is this man?” they asked him. “I don’t know,” he said.

3). STAY committed to God’s Light. (John 9:13-33)

4). SHIELD ourselves from the darkness. (John 9:34)

John 9:34, To this they replied, “You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!” And they threw him out.

Mark 10:29-30, 29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life.

5). Respond when God SEEKS us out. (John 9:35-39)

John 9:35-39, 35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” 36 “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.” 37 Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.” 38 Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.

39 Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”
