Romans 8:1-2, 1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 8:26, 8:31

How do I Begin Relying Upon God’s Love and Help Better?

Romans 8:1-4, 1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

  1. NO CONDEMNATION
  • Condemnation – katakrima – an adverse sentence

John 8:36

  • Condemnation says – “I can’t be counted on.”

Psalm 103:10-11, 10 He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him.

Psalm 103:13-14, 13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; 14 for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.

1 Timothy 1:15

Hebrews 7:25 (TLB), He (Jesus) is able to save completely all who come to God through him.

2. NO POWERLESSNESS

Romans 8:3, For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering.

Ephesians 2:1-5, 1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

  • Powerlessness says – “There is no one or nothing I can count on.”

3. NO SINFUL FLESH

Romans 8:3-4, For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Hebrews 4:15

Titus 2:11-12, 11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.

  • Our sinful flesh says – “I know what to count on.”

2 Corinthians 13:14, May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
