2 Peter 1:3-4
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
- Godliness encompasses behaviors, words, and attitudes that reflect God’s character.
- WE HAVE GOD’S POWER – When we submit our will to His . . . His power is unlimited and unleashed in our lives.
1 Chronicles 29:11
Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.
2 Corinthians 9:8 (NKJV)
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
- WE HAVE GOD’S PROMISES – They are incalculable, infallible, and available to us.
2 Corinthians 1:20
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
- WE HAVE GOD’S PURPOSE – God has provided you his divine power through His precious promises in order that we may participate in His divine nature!
Romans 12:2
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
How To Access His Power, Promises, And Purpose:
ANALYZE – Where do you need the most help in your spiritual life? What is keeping you from enjoying a life of godliness and joy on your Christian journey?
PERSONALIZE – Take your list and start finding the powerful promises of God’s Word that deal with your challenges.
MEMORIZE – This changes us because it’s a transformational discipline.
VERBALIZE – To cement these promises in your heart and mind you must speak them out loud.
ORGANIZE –build your own custom book of promises that you’ve hidden in your heart for future reference.
2 Peter 1:5-7
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.
- Diligence is “to make every effort; to act with urgency, zeal, and earnestness.
- We must translate the HEART of 2 Peter 1:3-4 into HABITS by adding to our faith as it says in 2 Peter 1:5-7.
Colossians 3:23-24 (NKJV)
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
How to Build the Habit of Diligence
LOOK AROUND: “Whatever you do”
LOOK WITHIN: “Do it heartily”
LOOK ABOVE: “As to the Lord”
LOOK AHEAD: “You will receive the reward”
1 Corinthians 10:31
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
