Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
- We need to slow things down ON PURPOSE, both in mind and body, FOR THE PURPOSE of nurturing our souls.
- Good time management doesn’t mean you do more, it means you do more of what matters most.
Psalm 34:8
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
- We must work hard to not miss the goodness of each day and strive to bring our best self to it.
IDEAS TO PRACTICE SLOWING:
- Drive the speed limit and get into the slow lane.
- Come to a full stop at stop signs.
- Don’t text and drive.
- Show up ten minutes early for an appointment.
- Get in the longest checkout line at the grocery store.
- Turn your smartphone into a dumbphone.
- Parent your phone: Put it to bed before you and make it sleep in until after your morning quiet time.
- Set time and a time limit for emails and social media.
- Set a limit on your TV entertainment intake.
- Intentionally focus on one task at a time.
- Walk slower.
- Take a regular day alone for silence and solitude.
- Take up journaling.
- Spend focused time meditating on God’s Word.
- Cook your own food and eat together at the table.
•There is great wisdom in regularly denying ourselves from getting what we want.
Colossians 2:6-7
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
THE GOALS OF SLOWING:
- Slow Down.
- Simplify our lives around the practices of Jesus.
- Live from a center of abiding.
