This question is not about condemnation, it’s about getting things out into the light.

  • The enemy has power over things that are left in the dark.

Ephesians 5:11
Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

John 8:31-32 (ESV)
31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Proverbs 18:2
Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.

People In The Bible Who Believed A Wrong Narrative About Themselves:

  1. Gideon – Excuses; Not good enough.

Judges 6:15
“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”

2. Abraham and Sarah – Too old; My time has passed.

Genesis 18:12-15 (ESV)
12 So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?” 13 The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’ 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.” . . .

3.Peter – Pride

Matthew 26:34-35 (ESV)
34 Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” 35 Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.

4. Moses – Past

Exodus 3:11 (ESV)
But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”

How To Be Honest With Myself . . . Really

  1. ASSUME responsibility.

2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Psalm 34:18 (ESV), The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

2. ASK the tough questions.

Psalm 139:23-24
23 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

“My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure.” – Abraham Lincoln

Questions to ask when I experience disappointment:

  • Are my expectations in line with God’s promises?
  • Am I seeking fulfillment in the right thing?
  • Am I currently grateful for what I have?
  • Am I asking God how to move forward?

3. ALIGN my story with God’s story.

2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you . . .

Romans 8:6
The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Questions:

  2. What will you do because of it?
  3. How can we pray for you?
