Psalm 32:1-2, 1 Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. 2 Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.
- The spirit (Spirit) we choose to obey will determine the consequences of our life!
Genesis 4:6-7, 6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
Hebrews 12:17, Afterward, as you know, when he (Esau) wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears, he could not change what he had done.
- Blessed are those who focus upon GOD’S DIRECTION not THEIR DRAMA amidst all things!
Romans 5:21
What Causes Bad Seasons to Continue?
Psalm 32:3-4, 3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.
- Groaning that doesn’t do good. (Verse 3)
- God’s hand is heavy not helpful. (Verse 4a-)
- David was fainting not living by faith. (Verse 4b)
Isaiah 61:1, The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted . . .
Bind up – chabash – to wrap firmly in order to govern and bring healing
What Brings God’s Blessing After Bad Seasons
- OUR CONFESSION of sin.
Psalm 32:5, Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.
Metaphors that describe how God deals with our sins:
- He removes them as far as the east is from the west. (Psalm 103:12)
- He treads them underfoot. (Micah 7:19)
- He casts them into the depths of the sea. (Micah 7:19)
- He casts then behind his back. (Isaiah 38:17)
- He wipes them out like a disappearing cloud. (Isaiah 43:25, 44:22)
- He remembers them no more. (Isaiah 43:25, Jeremiah 31:34)
2. OUR COMMITMENT to faithfully follow God.
Psalm 32:6-7, 6 Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them. 7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.
1 Peter 1:18-19; Proverbs 3:1-2
Words God uses to help us understand how we should treat sin:
- Transgression – Crossing the line from righteousness to sin.
- Willful sin – deliberate disobedience to God.
- Unwillful Sin – Missing the mark due to ignorance, immaturity or weakness.
- Iniquity – A perverted or warped way of life that’s practiced.
- Deception – Sin caused by blind spots.
- Deceit – Sin caused by a person who plots evil.
3. GOD’S COUNSEL of us.
Psalm 32:8-11, 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. 9 Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. 10 Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him. 11 Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
Psalm 32:6
