John 14:16 (NASB)
I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, so that He may be with you forever.

1) Be SATURATED – Live prioritizing the presence of God.

1 Samuel 3:1-2

1 Samuel 3:3
The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the house of the Lord, where the ark of God was.

  • Saturate – to become thoroughly soaked so that no more can be absorbed.

2) Be STILL (rest) – Live with healthy rhythms.

1 Samuel 3:4-8

1 Samuel 3:9
So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

  • We are spirits who live in bodies (flesh and bones) and have souls (mind, will, and emotions). – 1 Thessalonians 5:23
  • Psalm 46:10, He says, “Be still, and know that I am God…”
  • “If Satan can’t make you bad, he’ll make you busy.” – Adrian Rogers, 20th Century Preacher

3) Be a SERVANT – Live surrendered.

1 Samuel 3:10
The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Matthew 20:26-28
26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…

“Listening to God requires a surrendered heart and a willingness to obey.” – Dallas Willard, “Hearing God”

1 Samuel 3:19-21
19 The Lord was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of Samuel’s words fall to the ground. 20 And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the Lord. 21 The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed himself to Samuel through his word.
