Psalm 34:8-9
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. 9 Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing.

“To fear God is to be in AWE of Him – to honor, tremble, revere, esteem, respect, and value Him more than anything or anyone else.”
John Bevere

  • Until we have a healthy fear of God, He can never truly be Lord of our lives.

  • People with an unhealthy fear of God, feel the need to hide things from God. People with a healthy fear of God, want to be fully known by God.

  • People with an unhealthy fear of God, run from God. People who have a healthy fear of God, run to God.

How to Live with a Healthy Fear of God

  1. Honor His Word.

Isaiah 66:2
. . . These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.

2. Honor His Presence.

Psalm 89:7 (NKJV)
God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be held in reverence by all those around Him.

  • God’s presence in our life should affect the way we live.

What Happens When We Live with A Healthy Fear of God

  1. Friendship with God.

Psalm 25:14 (ESV)
The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant.

2. Joy

Psalm 112:11 (ESV)
Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments!

3. Blessing

Psalm 112:1-3 (ESV)
1 Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments! 2 His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. 3 Wealth and riches are in his house . . .

4. Peace (Eliminates fears)

Psalm 112:7 (ESV)
He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.

Psalm 27:1 (ESV)
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

5. Wisdom

Psalm 111:10
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

Daniel 1:15, 17-20
15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food . . . 17 To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds. 18 At the end of the time set by the king to bring them into his service, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar. 19 The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king’s service. 20 In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.
